They don’t call Derek Gillmore the 3 million litre man for nothing!

Derek, Project Manager for three aged care facilities in NSW and the ACT has managed to achieve this amount of water saving over a year since installing the new OTEK Laundry System. And in another win for the environment he has also realised a huge saving in CO2 emissions. Even more importantly the bottom line has been improved by over $38,000.

Over the three sites; Upper Jindalee, Weeroona and Laurieton Lakeside, there are six 23 kg machines servicing a total of 300 residents and with many varied responsibilities to take care of, Derek was generally satisfied with the three laundry operations. However, this didn’t stop him taking on board the offer of a free trial from Ozone Technologies as it’s important for him to explore any opportunity that has the potential to increase efficiencies.

The trial definitely proved beneficial; as well as demonstrating how possible it was to make the substantial savings, italso revealedthatthewashchemicals were not being successfully pumped into the machines.

It also highlighted the fact that the heating elements in the washers were being used providing an explanation for their rising energy costs.

Derek particularly liked the fact that all the laundry and nursing staff re- ceived thorough training not just on how to use the new system but also on laundry procedures which he sees as critical to achieve maximum efficiency.

All important bacteria testing was carried out on each site giving Derek great confidence in delivering a high level of standards compliance. And whilst Derek is delighted with the new system, the teams in the laundries are also very appreciative ‘Everything is a lot faster, the linen is brighter, with a fresh smell.’
